What goes into a healthy snack for moms?
So the first thing we need to discuss is what goes into a healthy snack for moms. A healthy snack is going to be food that is high in fiber, protein, or healthy fats.
All of these qualities contribute to helping you feel full longer so you don’t feel the need to eat as much. Plus they have a variety of other great health benefits. Let’s break each of them down a little more.
Benefits of fiber
According to the Mayoclinic, fiber is a key component for healthy snacks for moms because it does 2 things. 1.) it helps control blood sugar levels. When your blood sugar drops it can make you feel shaky, moody, and hangry.
2.) high fiber foods tend to be more filling than low fiber foods. This means that you’re likely to eat less and feel satisfied longer when you eat high fiber foods.
Some good sources of fiber are:
-
Fruits
-
Vegetables
-
Beans, peas, and other legumes
-
Nuts and seeds
Benefits of protein
Protein is a key component in healthy snacks for moms because it helps fill you up faster. This means you aren’t going to want to eat as much or feel the urge to eat as often.
Protein also increases recovery from exercise or injury, helps to reduce muscle loss, and helps build new lean muscle. Here are some good sources of protein:
-
Lean meats
-
Poultry
-
Seafood
-
Eggs
-
Nuts and seeds
-
Beans and peas
Benefits of healthy fats
So before you get all nervous, when I say fats, I’m referring to healthy fats, not “bad” fats. According to HelpGuide.org, healthy fats refer to monosaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats. These fats are good for your heart, cholesterol, and overall health.
These healthy fats are great for healthy snacks because they help you feel more satisfied after a meal. Which, you guessed it, makes you feel full longer and want to eat less often.
Some of the other awesome health benefits of healthy fats are lower blood pressure, lower bad cholesterol levels, and lower risk of heart disease and stroke. They can also reduce inflammation in the body.
Here are some good sources of healthy fats:
-
Olive, canola, peanut, and sesame oil
-
Avocados
-
Nuts and seeds
-
Fatty fish
-
Peanut butter

Fresh vegetables and hummus are a little harder to come by if you are out and about. You might need to stop at an actual grocery store to pick some up, but that isn’t too much harder than stopping at a gas station.
You can, of course, stock up on fresh vegetables and hummus at home and take it with you on the go.
